As a Fresno native, Shawn Nicole grew up on “The Golden West Side of Fresno” a place where “The Performing Arts” were offered to the community and embraced by the student at an early age.
The result of growing up in a well cultured community proved to be an asset to this young lady for it birthed out many of her god-given talents that would later on in life be a direct source of giving back to the same community she once lived.
Shawn Nicole’s early musical education began at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, where she began playing the clarinet at the age of 9. She pursued this instrument until the age of 15, which is when she began to pursue her singing.
During her sophomore year of high school, she lettered in the arts with an emphasis in chamber singing. At Fresno High School she was introduced to various cultures and genres of music. She then realized, this was just the beginning of her journey and began to pursue any avenue available to gain more experience and wisdom about her crafts.
In spring, 2000, Shawn Nicole began her studies at California State University, Fresno. This was also the year she began her Radio career at 90.7 KFSR FM as the host of Fresno’s premier Gospel radio broadcast. During her studies, she pursued acting, screen writing and dance theatre.
In summer, 2003, Shawn Nicole participated in the CSU Summer Arts program at Fresno State. She attended The Jazz Vocals and Instrument session. These master classes changed her life. Studying under great men and women of the industry such as Ray Briggs, Ron McCurdy, and Carmen Bradford, She began to see another side of the industry; A side where the artist was also the teacher. That is when she devoted herself to her artistry and began to pursue a place called “Above and Beyond”.
